To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS, the Surgery & Emotion team will be taking part in a medicine-themed Late at the Science Museum on Wednesday 25 July (18.45-22.00).
Stop by our interactive stall to ‘Make Your Own Medical Mills & Boon’. Inspired by Research Fellow Agnes Arnold-Forster’s work, our activity will introduce attendees to surgeon-nurse romances of mid-twentieth-century popular fiction.
We’ll be inviting participants to pen their own stories (along the lines of the game Consequences) and design their own cover art inspired by real-life medical Mills & Boon novels. Team members will be on hand to guide you through the tropes that populate this fiction and to discuss how the novels have shaped stereotypes about the surgical profession.
Science Museum Lates are adults-only, after-hours theme nights that take place on the last Wednesday of every month.
