The surgical theatre can be a place of high drama and intense emotions. But do we expect our surgeons to be stoic and dispassionate or caring and sympathetic – and how have our expectations changed over time?
Join Surgery & Emotion's Principal Investigator Michael Brown and Research Fellow Agnes Arnold-Forster in conversation as part of the Wellcome's Library Insights series on Thursday 11th October from 6-7pm.
They'll contrast the era of pre-anaesthetic surgery with cultural portrayals of surgeons after World War II. Attendees will have the chance to view rare printed materials, ask questions and join the discussion.
The event is free to attend but booking is essential.
